Pokies operate on a premise very similar to slots, so
learning to play is very simple. There are a few more buttons on pokies, but
the general gist of the game remains the same. Players should become acquainted
with the function of the buttons before sitting down to play, in order to make
the most of your experience.
On pokies screens, there are two rows (named “top” and “bottom”) equipped with
buttons. One the top row, there is a series of buttons which allow you to
decide how much money you would like to bet, ranging from 1 credit to 25
credits. Once these buttons are pressed, they stay active until the player
makes another choice. The left-most button is labeled “collect”; when pressed,
it will either prompt the machine to pay out your money or call an attendant to
award your winnings to you.
The bottom row has a few more buttons, the first of which is labeled “take
win/reserve”. After pushing “Take Win”, this button stops the machine from
accumulating your wins in order to display the final total. The “Reserve” button will reserve the machine
for up to three minutes, allowing the player to take a break, a feature that is
only common in land-based casinos.
The next five buttons correspond to the number of lines the player can bet on
per spin. Pressing any one of these buttons will start the game, so it is
important for players to be sure of the amount of lines they want to bet on
before beginning the game.
Finally, there are the Gamble and Start Feature Buttons. In most cases, the
Gamble button allows a winning player to opt into the bonus round, while the
Start Feature button only becomes active when a bonus feature must be
activated.
